Indoor Organics REAL Peat Free Compost – 40L

We have sourced the country high and low for a compost that meets our standards, something that is made from sustainable, consistent, traceable inputs. That is made properly to drive microbial life and also focus on nutritional balance. We also want the inputs themselves to be 100% organic, not from slaughterhouse waste or manures, and that is almost impossible!

We can find compost that is made well, but not from organic inputs. We can find compost made from organic inputs but not with any real focus on nutrition. We can find compost made from green waste, but its full of contaminants. What we can’t find is a REAL compost, made with REAL inputs, to achieve REAL results – so we made it ourselves!

Our REAL Peat Free Compost is made with consideration, care and maximum quality control. We have carefully considered all of the inputs, where we source them from and why we are using them. We want to create a compost that is a rich humus, that is brimming with diverse microbial life, but also balanced nutritionally for outstanding plant growth.

We have developed a blend that is made from inputs that are sustainable, consistent, clean and 100% organic. We have made it in a way that promotes microbial life and it is loaded with the right levels of nutrients and minerals.

We start with a blend of Alfalfa Chop and Hemp Shiv, Alfalfa is an ancient nutrient accumulator that grows without the need for fertilization. It has extra deep roots that source nutrients and minerals from where other plants can’t reach and stores them in it’s plant material. This brings the ‘green’ part of the blend, but not just Nitrogen, it also contains many essential trace minerals, good levels of Potassium and natural plant growth hormones like Triacontanol. The Hemp is the stalks from the plant, the woody parts that make up the ‘brown’ half of the blend. It is important when making compost to have the correct ratio of green:brown material, otherwise it can go bad, or equally do nothing at all. When you have the correct rations, the magic will happen.

We then add some Fish Meal and Gypsum to complete the nutritional profile, the Fish bringing good levels of Phosphorus, as well as essential amino acids and proteins. Most compost or organic fertilizers include some sort of slaughterhouse waste for this but we would never use those kind of sources, they are not ethical, clean or free from contamination. We are happy with Fish Meal, it is not perfect but is an excellent input for making high quality compost. Gypsum is added to reach peak PH levels and to ensure good levels of Calcium and Sulphur which are responsible for producing flavours and aromas in the flowers and fruits.

We make our REAL compost by hand, to ensure all ingredients are thoroughly blended and to manage the ‘cooking’ process effectively. We turn the compost every 2-3 days initially whilst it goes through it’s thermophilic process, reaching temperatures of 65c for 5-6 days, before it begins to cool and stabilise. Once the compost is complete, it is aged for 1 year to mature.

The best application for our REAL compost is to apply directly to beds or containers, around 4-6″ ideally, at the start of each growing season. This will provide a mulch layer, excellent nutrition and microbial inoculation. Plants should be transplanted or sown directly into the compost.

Ultimately, if you want a REAL compost that does what it is meant to, made the way it’s meant to be, then look no further!
